Activities

Rafting

DSCF6363Rafting is defined as the descend of a river in an inflated boat which takes six to ten people. A professional trainer is the "captain" of the boat. The rest of the "crew" row the boat and enjoy the ride.

The encounter with the gush of the water is difficult and stamina, energetic moves and quick decisions are required. Of course, swimming, physical and mental health are also among the necessary requirements. The body is alert.

Descending a river can be either easy or difficult, depending on the season. You see, in spring and in the summer the rivers become much steeper and difficult for the athletes. On a mixed degree of difficulty route, anyone can take part as long as they are over twelve years old, have a moderate stamina and of course know how to swim.

On routes of a greater degree of difficulty one needs better stamina and undisputably bigger experience.

Rafting is usually more popular in spring and autumn when the flow of the rivers and the weather conditions allow it. Nevertheless, there are routes which can be carried out throughout the year.

DSCF6363Rafting on the rivers Awos and Voidomatis

Have an exciting experience in your boat descending the rivers Awos and Voidomatis in

Konitsa. The area is dominated by the green and the rivers. Old, arched bridges made of stone complete the scenery. As you go down the river Awos in your boat, you will come across the biggest bridge in Greece, the Awos' bridge which is a miracle of architecture, measuring 40m in length and 20m in height.

There is also a bridge on the river Voidomatis which you will be able to see on the way to Aristi.

Besides rafting on the rivers Awos and Voidomatis, Konitsa is also the ideal place for mountain or rock climbing and hang gliding on the slopes of the mountains in the area.

Canyoning

DSCF5022Canyoning is the descend of canyons by the use of ropes.

While you go down, you pass through waterfalls and swim in small lakes, shaped by the torrents which travel through the canyon, or you can climb down from a height of 50m using a rope (rappel).

Everyone can take up this activity at the appropriate canyon. After a short training, beginners will be able to make their first attempt on " easier " canyons, while there are certain routes which require relevant experience and fitness. The ability of swimming is also considered necessary.

You can try canyoning throughout the year when the weather conditions allow it. Still, the best seasons for this activity are spring and autumn. Organised sports schools in the area offer equipment and lessons to beginners.
